Lilja MCAS

Featured Blogger: Sammy
Hi, my name is Sammy Rochwerger and I’m here to tell you about the amazing Lilja MCAS! First let me tell you what MCAS is. MCAS is a test that everyone is tested around the whole state of Massachusetts! And guess what, they even do it around the whole country! MCAS starts in third grade. In third and fourth grade,    you have two weeks. One for ELA (English Language Arts), and one for Math. In middle school, you have three weeks. One for ELA, one for Math, and one for Science.
You have two days per week, Monday and Tuesday for each subject. For the reading week, you have to read a two stories, and for each story you will answer questions for both stories. For each story, you will have to answer an open-response question, which is a question where you have to type your answer instead of  touching A. B. C. or D. In math, the computer gives a question that has to do with math. But not all of the math questions are like 6x8=48.

Now that you know a lot about MCAS, I hope when you go into third grade, you will be excited for taking the MCAS test. See you later!!!

Making Blue Bot Mats!

Featured Blogger: Kyle
Hi I'm Kyle. My last blog was about the read a thon. This one is about making blue bot mats. And trust me this one is better than the read a thon blog. Ok let's get started!

It all started when Mr. S came, and taught us/3Sp how to code!  Who is Mr. S? Well, he is a teacher who goes from school to school teaching kids how to code.  He taught us how to code a little electronic mouse to move around something to get to the end of his track.  Then he said, “I made these tracks, now it's your turn! What kind of mat will it be? Is it a game? Is it a list, when your in a mall and you need go from place to place in order?”

Other groups made arcades, and other cool stuff.  Now you're probably wondering what kind of mat I made? I made a pokemon themed mat game. Now you're probably if you want to do it to. You will need these 5 things:
1. A coding mose small or big
2. Chart paper a big one
3. Art supplies: markers, crayons, etc.
4. Your mind \ amagination
5. A great team!
My team is Ema, Gabe and me (Kyle.) If you tried to do the coding mat I hoped you had fun!!! -Kyle

Growth Mindset Posters!!!

Featured Blogger: Danielle
Hi my name is Danielle. In our class, we’ve been doing something for MCAS. So for that, we’ve been making growth mindset posters. So when we do MCAS it will help us keep on trying. Here are some examples: embrace the struggle, don’t give up until you are proud, the expert in anything was once the beginner, etc. So you are probably wondering how do you make the posters? Do you make the whole poster from scrap? Well no. Because we usually get this paper so we can color in it. Then when we have MCAS we will hang the posters on the wall to keep us confident and we won’t give up too. I wrote about this because it is my second time blogging, and I can't wait for MCAS too. I liked writing about this because blogging is fun! And one thing I forgot, after we are done with our posters, we put them on big huge wallpaper.  Then on all the leftover blank space we write positive messages like you can do this!! Don't give up!! Keep on trying! Anyways I hoped you liked my blog!

Compliment Posters Blog

Featured Blogger: Eamonn
Hi its me sooo I just want a little bit of ur time to tell you about something called compliment posters that my class made.  They’re sort of just a piece of paper with little paper strips that have compliments on them. And the compliments are anonymous so you don’t know which compliment is from which person.  Oh. I forgot about something. We are having them next to us during MCAS!!!!!!! Just in case we thought that it was impossible, we could look at the compliments and they would cheer us up.  The posters are nice because they have compliments from different people.

The Wild Robot

Featured Blogger: Fiona
The Wild Robot is the best book you will ever read!  It is about a robot that fell off a ship and has to survive in the wilderness on an island! It is such a touching, moving, extraordinary book!!!!! The robot finds an egg, hatches it,  and lives with the baby bird for the rest of her life! She named it, Brightbill. The robot’s name is Roz. Then some other robots come and try to take Roz back to the factory to fix! At one point when Brightbill was older he, migrated with other geese. He missed his mommy, Roz, but he came back. Two geese died on the trip.  One died because of the cold weather and she was old. The other one was the leader of the flock and she died because a person shot her. I cried.

I also like this story because, the author talks to the reader. Example: “Reader, I know this doesn’t make sense but, remember Roz is a robot, she doesn't have feelings.” I recommend this book to, 3rd graders and older.  This book is my favorite book because it was entertaining and it gave me a new perspective on life. And it did that because it had so many adventures and ways to look at them.
