Dream Houses in Art

Featured Blogger: Nora

In art we had a sub on the Tuesday before vacation because Ms. Golestani went to training. We made dream houses we could have as many things as we want in it. There were so many choices to draw. You would color after you are done with your drawing. It was really fun drawing. I did not get to color but if we finish a project you can work on it. I worked on my drawing, and then I got to coloring. I have not done a lot of coloring on my drawing yet.  So far it looks great and I'm really proud of my work!

Spring Scene!

Featured Blogger: Mark

Did you know that we are doing a compliment spring scene? Well we are doing it! Every time we earn a compliment from another teacher, we get to add a picture to the cabinets. So far we have the grass, stem, the middle part of the flower, the petals, the leaves, and the sun! We also have a chart so we can check off the parts when we earn a compliment! We have to earn all 15 parts for the spring scene and then we can earn a prize! Some people can make the pictures to the spring scene, only if they get picked from the fish bowl. We printed the chart of the spring scene. I made the middle part of the flower! It was fun making a part of the scene. So, if you have Ms. Sprague you might be able to make a spring scene in the spring.

Fractions

Featured Blogger: Evie

Welcome I’m Evie from 3Sp and this year third graders are learning about fractions!  In math class we had centers.  The centers were technology, cutting up cookies, teacher learning and the last one was making a fortune teller.  Another day we did a mini lesson on comparing fractions and seeing if 3/6 is equal to ½ on a number line.  At first I knew nothing about fractions and then I learned a lot by the end of the unit.  We made fraction sets and it help us in teacher learning when we were comparing the fractions!  Each center was very fun so I will tell you about each new one besides teacher learning because I already told you what we do in that one.  In technology you either did Reflex Math or TenMarks if you graduated from Reflex Math, or if you just do TenMarks because you don’t want to do Reflex Math.  In the cutting up cookies center we had a picture that had many hexagons on it and you had to find a way to fill up the hexagons with pattern blocks.  The last one was where you had to make a fortune teller and there were directions on a paper and one were it told you how to play it.  The last thing was in our homework packet there was a page where you had to put the fractions in order from largest to smallest and then you had to tell how you figured it out.  Got to go, bye!

Gardens

Featured Blogger: Felitcia
Do you know what a native and a colonial garden is?  You will find out!  3Sp went to 3-4Q and we started planting our seeds.  We paired up with someone from the other class and we started to plant. One half of the class was colonial gardens and the other half of the class was native gardens.  Step 1 was to mix the dirt around then put it into our cup. Then before you get the seeds you need to poke a hole in the cup but not that big.  Then one of the teachers comes around and gives you the seeds one time of seed is Love-in-a-Mist and Indian Berry Popcorn.  Once you get the seeds you put them in and then cover the hole like it was never there. There is a hole at the bottom and you take it out so that you can put water in it.  Once you put the hole in you have to put more dirt in so that the hole doesn’t even show.  Then once you are done filling in the hole you go over to the sink with your plant and put it under the water until the bottom starts to leak, then you go under the tray with your plant until it stops leaking. Then you go over to these apparatus, and it looks like a glass wall but has only flower.  You give your plant to Ms. Sprague and she puts it in the apparatus .  At the end we found out that our plants would go in the library.  We all now could see it even the kids that did not make the gardens yet.  That is the end of the native and colonial garden.  You now know what a Colonial and Native garden is!

The Light Show!

Featured Blogger: Maria
I went to the light show at the Wellesley College Greenhouses on March 9th. They put lights on the plants and it looked beautiful. There were 3 rooms for the plants, and one room was named the Desert House. Another room was called the Tropic House. My mom said it reminded her about the nights in Brazil.  My favorite plant was the cacti because it had so many spikes.  In the Tropic House there were real crickets and they were chirping. There was a flower that made the whole room smell so good. There was so many cacti of many sizes.  There was a weird plant called the Monkey Cup. It was shaped as giant cut in half coconut. There were some flowers that had a light shining on them. There was a tree in the middle of a room with flowers on it.  One room had a fake frog with water was coming out of Its mouth. I did not stay there for long because I think I was allergic to a plant there.  I had fun seeing the plants even if I had allergies!
