Cursive

Featured Blogger: Jack

Hey, do you what 3Sp is learning? We’re learning cursive!!! The first letter we learned was L. We’re learning lower case letters first, then upper case letters. We learn cursive letters in a blue workbook. By the way, we also learned E, H, B, F, K, I, J, P, R, S, T, U, W, C, A, O and D. All the letters start at the grass line. What's the grass line you will ask? Well, there are 4 lines: the worm, the grass, the plane, and the sky line. Got it? Now, let me tell you what part of the day we learn it. We learn cursive either at the end of the day or in the morning. We do skywriting, which is when we write the letter in the air. We also need to practice at it to get good at it. Cursive is... AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!  And the BEST!!!!!!!!  By: Jack

Culture Cubes

Featured Blogger: Will
Hey! Guess what 3Sp made! Culture cubes!!! There are 4 sides and a bottom...AND you draw a self portrait on the top!!!!!! I put music, food, language, customs, and family tree on it.  It was really cool to be able to make a culture cube! Everyone will get to share their culture cube.  So far we've had 1 person share. There are a lot of different religions in this class so we will get to hear a lot of different things from a lot of different cultures! Some of the languages are Portuguese, German, and American. We put a lot of effort into the culture cubes that we made.    We are going to learn a lot about each other’s cultures when we all share.

The ending of my blog !!!

Playing the Recorder

Featured Blogger: Matt
Hey 3Sp got recorders!  The colors are red, blue, white and green.  I got blue and I am learning how to play it.  We read about when the recorder was first made.  Some of the class got to trade parts of their recorder. No germs were on it.  I love it.  We are learning to play them!  You should play it at home.  I am so happy we got them.  Also you should put your name on the case.  You have to get the white belt.  You might be asking how do you get the white belt.  Well you have to know how to play hot cross buns.  Our class knows how to play!  Playing the recorder is fun!!!

Wampanoag Study

Featured Blogger: Sammie
3Sp is learning about the Pilgrims and Wampanoags!  We are starting out with the Wampanoags but we will learn about the Pilgrims too!  3Sp took a field trip to Plimoth Plantation and saw how the Pilgrims and Wampanoags lived in the 1600s!  Ms. Sprague has been reading us chapters of a Magic Tree House book about the Wampanoags in social studies!

3Sp did a fun activity where you have a partner and get assigned a picture.  With the picture you had to guess what it was and answer 6 questions.  (The pictures were blurry)!  Then we had to share it.  We have packets that have things to do and stuff to learn about in them!  3Sp is doing an activity with folders that have some cards and some articles in it too!  We will be learning about what the Wampanoags did in the 1600s to survive!  We learned that girls and boys did different chores instead of the same ones!  Wampanoags lived in a wetu in the summer and in a different home in the other seasons!  3Sp had a real Wampanoag come in on December 13!

The topics for an activity we are doing are: Food, A Thankful Spirit, People Of The First Light, Hunting, Fishing, Wampanoag Homes, Wampanoag Clothing, Roles And Responsibilities, Children, Leaders, Legend Of Maushop, and Wampanoag Language!  We are doing research about every day now but not every single day!  3Sp is having so much fun!  We switch the folders every day.  We love learning about the Wampanoags in social studies.

We will learn about the Pilgrims later!!

The Wampanoag Visit

Featured Blogger: Landon
Hello! Welcome to 3Sp! This week we had a Wampanoag person come to teach us about their culture. The Wampanoag’s name was Phillip. He first taught us about animal skins and how his ancestors used them. He said that “deer skin was very useful back then.” He had animal skins like deer, skunk, and beaver and much more. He said that skunks are very good for food and how they caught skunks without getting sprayed. He said they would put a trap down and make it walk on the trap with food on it and the skunk would be in the air. You're thinking how does that help? Skunks have their place where they spray attached to their legs! So if they’re in the air they can’t spray!

Phillip said “beaver skin is perfect to hold a baby in it because it’s soft and waterproof so if a baby spills or drools it will be dry in no time! And all you need to do is bend it correctly and done.” They also made games with deer scraps like bones and a little bit of deer skin. We all had fun during the visit and i hope you learned about the Wampanoag visit this week.

Natick Rotary Club Visit

Featured Blogger: Alex

The Natick Rotary Club came came on December ninth so we get new and … FREE dictionaries. This is so cool because the dictionaries have extra cool features like the longest word in the English language has 1,909 letters, a page with lots of info of each state that's right info on EACH state, a 2016 and 2017 calendar, sign language page and MORE. There are 2 more reasons why the Natick Rotary club is awesome. 1: It is a special event and I like special events! 2: The Rotary club is in charge of all the awesome events including Natick Days AND the 4th of July parade. I hope you enjoyed this and you should get the dictionary called “A Student’s Dictionary’’.

Tiny Tiny Little Mouse

Featured Blogger: Tess
Mice can’t talk.  Or so you think!  I’m Tess Berman and I am going to tell you about when my class read a book and then saw a movie!  Whoooo!  It’s very hard to say all that, but I say we are straying from the format a bit.

“Okay class, now we are going to start the movie!  Get your clipboards if you are sitting on the rug.  Also if you are sitting on the rug, you need to sit criss-cross applesauce and have your clipboard on your lap,” said Ms. Sprague.  I sat on the rug so I could get a close-up look at the movie!

We had to fill out one page and a Venn Diagram and here are some of the questions on the sheet...What was your favorite part of the movie and the book?  And, Was the setting like you pictured?  Also, If you could change one thing in the movie, what would you change, and why?

Me and my friend, Sammie, sat next to each other when we were watching the movie and we wrote down a lot of the same things because we were helping each other so we could be done with the packet quicker so we could really enjoy the movie for pete’s sake!!!

So now let’s talk about the Venn Diagram now!  A Venn Diagram is a kind of diagram that you use to compare a bunch of these things!  You can compare...a book to the movie,  two different books, and a bunch of other things too!

Let’s talk about the movie now!   It is called...The Tale Of Despereaux!  The movie/book is about a little mouse who had huge ears and he wasn't like the other mice.  Here are some of the things that made him different than the other mice… he tried to take cheese from all of the mouse traps, he did not scurry when he saw a knife, mouse trap, cat, etc.  But the one major thing that made him different was that he was born as a very tiny mouse and...WITH HIS EYES OPEN!!!

Now I’m going to tell you some of the things I wrote down to answer the questions on the packet.  For the part in the book I liked the best was...when Miggery Sow (the serving girl) got so big because when she was in the castle, she was fed so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, much!!!

The part in the movie I liked the best was...when the pea (the princess) “gave” Despereaux a “kiss” and then he was walking crooked (because he was in love!)  and fell off of the tablecloth!

Some things that surprised me was...there is a mouse kingdom and a huge rat city, Despereaux has a fight with a cat, and Despereaux and Roscuro (a rat) become friends!

Did the characters look like you pictured?  Explain: Pea (look two paragraphs up) has blonde hair and I thought she had red hair.  Also, I did not think the king had a beard and “short-ish”hair.  And, Miggery Sow had less “cauliflower looking” ears.  And last but not least, I thought the jailer had a beard and hair that was bright orange, and I thought he was bigger, like a giant and more friendly.  By the way, Miggery Sow was sold to a farmer and he hit her ears and that’s why they looked like pieces of cauliflower.

Did the setting look like you pictured?  Explain: The dungeon is less dark than I thought.  And, I thought that the Pea had a bigger room and I thought she had a bigger bed and a bigger everything!  Also, I thought that the stairs were made of gold!

Last but not least...if you could change one thing in the movie what would you change and why?  The threadmaster should be less creepy because his eyes are very creepy.  Also I would make the movie be more like the book because the plot of the book makes much more sense than the movie.

Goodbye my friends!  I hope you had fun when you were reading this!  You will read other blogs and they will be just as good as this one,  and possibly better,  but I hope you had fun reading this and learning about when 3Sp read The Tale Of Despereaux and then watched the movie to it as well!

The War of Selling Lemonade

Featured Blogger: Braeden
Hi my name is BRAEDEN and I am going to tell you about how my class read the book, Lemonade War, by Jacqueline Davies.  This book is mostly about Evan and Jessie. They are brother and sister and they have many adventures together.  But let’s just stick to one of their adventures. So, it was a sunny day and Evan was laying down on his basement floor throwing a baseball.  It was the last 10 days of summer vacation and Evan was bored.  Evan had been trying to get away from Jessie and not play with her.  And then the doorbell rang.  “Ding dong” went the doorbell.   Evan raced upstairs so he could get there before Jessie did.  It was the mail.   A letter said that Jessie was in Evan’s class!  Evan was angry.  He did not want his 7 year old sister to be in his 4th grade class.

Then one day later, Evan’s friend Scott came to sell lemonade with Evan. Jessie offered to help but Evan and Scott just walked away. Evan didn't even like Scott but when Evan was little, he and Scott were best buddies but when they got to elementary school, they didn’t hang out.   Evan had no other friend that was available at the time, so Evan chose to have Scott help out with the lemonade stand.  He did not want Jessie to help out because he was really mad that Jessie was in his class. She was supposed to be in third grade.  Jessie felt sad that Evan just said that to her because she knew Evan was not friends with Scott.  Jessie went to her room so she could read Charlotte’s Web and that's what she did when she got sad.  She read that book because she knew what happens next.  So she was at the part were Wilbur is going to get killed when Charlotte makes a web to save Wilbur.  Again Jessie knew what would happen but it was the best part of the book so Jessie felt a little better but was still mad at Evan for saying that to her.  It was really mean what he said.

At the lemonade stand Scott was hot and thirsty so he drank some lemonade.  Evan said “hey cut it out do not drink any more lemonade. We are here to sell lemonade not to drink it!”  But Evan did want a nice and cold glass of lemonade too but it was for the customers.  Then back at the house Jessie was trying to find someone to do a lemonade stand with. Then she remembered that Evan had a friend named Megan. Jessie had never met her but Jessie had listened to many good stories about her so Jessie went to Megan’s house. That's when Jessie started to think about how in 2nd grade some mean kids started a club named wild hot jelly beans. When they started that club Jessie was in it but then the whole class joined but like a month later Jessie found out that the club’s real name was “We Hate Jessie.”  Jessie was really sad but then at home Jessie told Evan and evan said to not go near them so Jessie rang the doorbell of Megan’s house.  To get more information read the book!  When we finished we read Tale Of Despereaux but I liked the Lemonade War better but I still liked the Tale Of Despereaux.  Read the next blog to find out more about the Tale Of Despereaux!

Plimoth Plantation

Featured Blogger: Gavin
Hey 3Sp parents we’re going to Plimoth Plantation!!!  YEEESSS!  1 hour 30 minute bus ride there.  At least it felt like that.  Let’s see what’s in there.  Wampanoag village!!!  Fact: did you know that deer skin is used in most of their clothes?  Wampanoags used summer houses to live in and different houses for arguments and discussions.  In the Pilgrim village, they had cows and chickens.  Me (Gavin), Alex and Will had the BEST CHAPERONE EVER!  Our chaperone was Alex’s grandmother.  She gave us bread--correction white bread.  We all ate lunch with the class and took the 1 hour 30 minute bus ride back to school. Ok this time it was actually that long.  Everybody had fun on the field trip!

The Publishing Party

Featured Blogger: Jessica
Everyone is so excited for the Publishing Party. I shouldn't even get started with the people who really wanted it. They were the most excited people in the whole entire class and a lot of people were very excited but I knew they were the most excited of everybody else.  I could tell by their faces but I don't think they exactly wanted to listen to other people’s stories. I think they just want the popcorn Ms. Sprague is buying us for the Publishing Party.  I think Ms. Sprague is just buying popcorn so everybody will stay silent because it’s always really loud so if we get popcorn we can’t really speak.

A few days later...
It was the day of the Publishing Party.  At morning meeting Ms. Sprague told everyone that it was the day of the Publishing Party.  A good amount of boys and a good amount of the girls were really quiet. They raised their hands and made the silent signal, so everyone would stay silent and then everyone did stay silent.

A few hours later...
It was a period away from the Publishing Party.  Everyone finished their lunches and lined up to go back to the classroom for recess.

A half an hour later...
We went in from recess and everybody realized that it was time for the Publishing Party.  Actually, it was just a few kids, they said this  “guys it’s time for the Publishing Party!” Everybody went wild. Ms. Sprague said “settle down everyone, settle down” and everybody did. Then Ms. Sprague said to everybody that  they needed to sit at their table spot and she would call tables up to get their popcorn then get their book in their binder and sit in a circle on the rug. Then everybody rushed over to get their book in their binder and sit on the rug to share their stories. Then Ms. Sprague picked about 5 kids names out of the fish bowl  and they all said that they didn’t want to, then finally somebody said they wanted to. Everyone was so excited. Ms. Sprague said to be silent, so everybody started eating their popcorn and being quiet. Then the first person shared and everyone listened, but after the person that went first finished their story about 5 people after that person got called from the fish bowl before. So they didn't want to go but only half the class got to share and I was one of the people that had to wait until the next two periods. The person that I was next to was the next one to go but then we had to stop.

After the periods...
It was finally time for everyone else that was going to share including me.  I was so excited but also kind of scared because I didn't want everyone to think my story was too long.  So when it was my turn I just read aloud to everyone and hoped they didn’t get bored with my story.   So I read pretty quick so I didn’t take too long and before I knew it I was done and I heard somebody say this “that was an amazing story.” After that everyone went, and that is the end of the Publishing Party!!!

3Sp Compliment Checklist!

Featured Blogger: Sammie

3Sp is trying to get a reward by putting together 10 parts to a pumpkin.  Every time we get a compliment we get to add a part to the pumpkin.  We needed to get 10 compliments!  3Sp got all 10 compliments on 11/9/16 and got every part! 3Sp voted for a reward! The rewards to choose from were a movie or a games and crafts day. The movie got the most votes. 3Sp is still trying to chose a movie that we can watch. If we get a couple of movie ideas or if we only get one movie idea, Ms. Sprague will add some ideas or pick the only one that came in! 3Sp will watch the movie in December! We are so excited to watch a movie soon!  On November 14, 2016 3Sp made one movie suggestion and Ms. Sprague is looking for more! If 3Sp students are going to bring movies in it will have to come in soon enough for the movie.  3Sp is looking forward to the movie!  3Sp is waiting to find out which movie we will watch!  Kids in 3Sp are wondering what the movie will be!  we will be watching the movie on a half day!  3Sp is so so so excited to watch the movie!  Our class has one movie option but Ms. Sprague is looking for more!!  We can’t wait!!!!!!

This is 3Sp's pumpkin and compliment checklist.

Halloween Party!

Featured Blogger: Tessa

It was Halloween and everyone was excited for Halloween! Especially for our Halloween party!  So many people were talking about Halloween.  People were also excited because we were getting kindergarten buddies!!! Read Sophie’s blog to find out about kindergarten buddies! So many people had awesome costumes like greek gods and Mal and Evie from “Descendants.” After recess we were super excited because now we were going to have our HALLOWEEN  PARTY!!!  We came in the classroom and some of our parents came. Tess’s mother baked cupcakes and they were so good. And some parents brought in pumpkins. There was enough for everybody to decorate. Everybody had a lot of fun. Some people decorated theirs really funny like Abby put mustaches on every side of her pumpkin. It was really funny. Halfway into the party we had the cupcakes. It was so good.  The cupcakes were awesome. Every part of the cupcakes were GOOD!!! Everybody loved the cupcakes and we got three cupcakes each! There was also pretzels, carrots, and juice boxes. After all our parents left we got to do Halloween word searches and find the hidden picture sheets. There was two actually. One was with pigs and the other was a Halloween style. After that we had snack for the kids who wanted it, while the other kids who didn’t want snack worked on their activity sheets. And sadly that was the end of our Halloween party! I guess I’ll just have to wait until next year but over all think this was the best Halloween party ever!!!

The Government's Job

Featured Blogger: Sophie
In class we have been talking about what the 3 branches of government do and how to become president.

TO BECOME PRESIDENT
To become president you must be born here.(USA)  Also you must have lived here for 14 years.  You must be at least 35 years old and you can’t have committed a serious crime.

3 BRANCHES OF GOVERNMENT
Legislative:
The Legislative makes the laws that could become real laws.  Congress is made of the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Executive:
The Executive branch is the branch with the president. The president can put a new law or a bill to action or veto it.  Veto means to disagree with the law that they want to become a real law.

Judicial:
This branch is the Supreme Court.  The Supreme Court has 9 judges.  The Supreme Court is one of the biggest courts.  The president picks the 9 judges

That is what we learned about the government!

Plants in 3Sp

Featured Blogger: Alex
One month ago we planted plants and some did not grow (including my plant!!!!!).  And some grew huge like: Matthew Oliveira’s, Angel Morales-Rivers’, and Jessica Rothschild’s. They all are under the small heat lamp so I think the big heat lamp is too high or there is too much water under the big light.

Ms. Sprague’s mom has come in twice now. First, to plant them. Second, to check on them. Well what did we do?

So, the first time, we spread out newspapers, took pots, and put dirt in the pots and knocked the pots on the newspaper-covered-table to get the dirt to the right level. Then we planted lettuce, spinach, or micro greens.

The second time we answered a question. “How can we help our plants grow?”
We came up with a watering schedule:

Monday: Tess, Sophie B, Peter,Gavin
Tuesday: Jordin, Ella,  Abby, Braeden
Wednesday: Alex, Sammie, Angel, Matt
Thursday: Layla,  Kian, Haily, Jessica, Tessa
Friday: Jack, Landon, Sophie W, Will

Now, we will keep an eye out to see if all the plants grow.

Japanese Okaido

Featured Blogger: Layla
My whole class and some other class and grade went to the gym and went to see the Japanese drum players!  When the Japanese people came out everyone was very excited even me!  Then they introduced themselves after they taught us some Japanese.  Then they played the drums and it was the song to bring down the god of dragon.  One of the drummers said that they saw it and I saw it too but everyone else didn't.  Then they did a little show for us and at the end of the show they put in the drumming sounds and it was really funny.  After they told more stories and they put in some of the drumming too.  They also got out this weird person that comes out in Japan when there is an omatsuri.  Omatsuri is music and dance.  Almost at the end they let kids go up stage and everyone said that I should go up because I am Japanese and I have played it before.  So I raised my hand.  I got picked and the person asked if I was Japanese and I said yes!  When I went on stage I was a little scared but everybody in my class made me get ready and it was pretty easy because I just had to follow the person that was also from the band.  I forgot to tell you the name of the band.  The name is Okaido and they work in New York.  At the end they played one more song for us on the drum again but this time they made a really good song with the drums.  I was really happy when the Japanese drummers came, but when they were talking in Japanese and they were teaching us I was bored because I already knew Japanese.  I felt like it was the best day and best performance ever!
Me on stage playing the drums!

The Peace Flag Project

Featured Blogger: Haily
One day 3Sp and 2Cr came together and did a project about peace!  Our teachers partnered us up with 2Cr and then we got a circle paper which is either green or blue. Then we got either a green or blue regular sized paper and had to cut thick and thin strips of paper to make a peace sign on the circle. Then we either drew a picture or wrote about what peace means to us. After that we had to write our names in pencil then marker. After that we had to turn it in. When we were done had to read to our partner any of 2Cr’s books. At the end we had Friday Free Time together with 2Cr. It was a very fun day with 2Cr. I can’t wait to meet up with them sometime soon!

This is a picture of the peace flag and the peace symbols we made!

Book Fair

Featured Blogger: Ella

HI! I’m Ella and I’m writing about the book fair.  The book fair is awesome because you can choose wich ever book you want.  Like chapter books, hardcover books, it’s got them all.  And the best part is you get to keep them!  The book fair goes on for a long time so really you make it in time that means you made it in time!  The book fair is almost always two days long so you have two long days to come!  Now the book fair has really cool books too.  It has mystery books and really big books and book swaps are really cool too but that's a different story.  You can get books that have movies that go with them like Harry Potter, big books, small books, books, books, books!  And if you look really look around you might find over 300 books. If you’re a real book lover you might get 5 books if you’re not that much of a book lover you might just get 1 or 2 books.  And after the book fair the books you bought  are all yours!  And the best thing about books is that you just read a book no boy books or girl books just normal books.  So when you go, well if you go take really good care of your books, all of them.  At the book fair I got 2 books but I’m not going to tell you yet. So if you do go to the book fair you might see the books I got which are Twintuition Double Vision and a Goosebumps book . Well I hope you liked my blog!
