Cards with K Buddies

Featured Blogger: Nikita

We made valentines for people who live in nursing homes with our K buddies.  We got paper, and folded it in half. After that, we wrote inside and signed the card. Then we painted the outside with watercolor.  After we finished the cards, Ms. Sprague and Ms. Hirsch delivered the cards to people in the Morse HealthCare Center in Natick.  We wrote things like, “Have a good day!” and, “ Happy Valentine’s Day!”  A lot of kids enjoyed the project and especially using watercolor to decorate the cards!

Preparing for Valentine's Day

Featured Blogger: Maddy

This year 3Sp is making Valentines for our buddies! First we got our supplies. We needed white crayon, a paintbrush, watercolor, watercolor paper, and a cup of water. 3Sp had a watercolor tray at each table. We needed to let these dry for at least a few hours.  Some people wrote on their card “I love being your buddy this year.”  We gave the valentines to our buddies right before February vacation.  When we did this activity we had to make at least one Valentines Day card.  Also when we did this activity it was a secret to our buddies. When we did this everyone had fun! Also our buddies loved our Valentines!!

Third Grade Penny Collection

Featured Blogger: Caleb
In math our class did a penny collection because we were practicing counting by 10s.  We decided to donate half to the Rotary Club and half to the Natick Service Council.  We did this because we wanted to help both organizations.  We wanted to donate to the Rotary Club because we wanted to thank them for giving us dictionaries!  We wanted to donate to the Natick Service Council because a woman also came in to tell us about the Natick Service Council and what they do.  In total the third grade collected $103.82!  We think that’s the most pennies anyone at Lilja has ever collected!  The third graders are proud of how much we collected in all.  We had fun collecting all these pennies and helping the Natick Service Council and the Rotary Club!

Nora delivered half the pennies to the
                                                             Natick Service Council.
P.S.  The Natick Service Council is trying to get us in the paper!

Reader's Theatre with K Buddies

Featured Blogger: Brooke
This week we have been practicing reader theatre with our groups. There are 5 different groups. There is one big group and the rest are small groups. We also performed to our class before we performed to our K buddies. We also made props before we performed to our K buddies. Then we practiced to our group and our group read their part. Also I was in the group The Lion and the Rabbit. The other groups were called Why Mole Lives Underground also The Grass is Always Greener. Also How the Rhino Got Wrinkly Skin and Let Sleeping Dogs Lie. Also when we performed we said where it took place and what genre it was. For an example The Lion and the Rabbit took place in a jungle and it was a fable. The reason we did this was because we wanted get better for reading fluently. So also we wanted to perform to our kindergarten buddies! Our kindergarten buddies liked our play and we had fun doing it!

Ocean the Fish

Featured Blogger: Eddie

3Sp earned a pet fish for getting compliments and it was a Siamese fighting fish. We voted for a name and the name that got most votes was Ocean! We could only get 1 fish because if we got 2 or more only one will survive.  Ocean is an aqua fish. Ocean loves to be around the filter. A new job is fish feeder and we feed Ocean at snack time.  Ocean’s a boy! We got Ocean at Petco. Looking at Ocean for 2 minutes is a new brain break. Ocean is a Betta fish.  We love Ocean as a class pet!

The Thermometer

Featured Blogger: Joey

The thermometer is the new feature in the classroom and I personally think that it is the best feature in the classroom.  The thermometer is really big!  One of the reasons I think it’s the best is it tells the temperature and I like temperature. It says the temperature is a little off because it is a little bit outside and a little bit inside. This is a little annoying because I want to know the real temperature. We also record the temperature on a temperature chart. We check the temperature every Wednesday and write it down on the chart. So far it has been lower than 50°F, the highest temperature there has been is 46°F, and the lowest it has been is 15°F. There's a meteorologist in the classroom and we pick a new one every week. Last week it was 21°F. It can also show negatives and it can show Celsius too! The lowest it can go is -40°F and the highest it can go is 120°F.  It’s never gone that high or low but it might some time. I like Celsius and Fahrenheit, but I like Fahrenheit better. These are all of the reasons why you should get a thermometer!
