Research Clubs

Featured Blogger: Fiona
This is Fiona from 3Sp. I am at Lilja. In reading we are researching Monarch Butterflies. It is really fun! We read a bunch of books on them and then we take notes. We always add to them if we are missing something!!!  Each person in your group has a different subtopic. And then we check with someone with the same subtopic. After that we organize our notes and put them in order. Then we get to present it in some way. Like a comic, slideshow, picture book, newspaper, or magazine. I chose a slideshow. It looks pretty cool!! Soon I can print it out and the whole class can read it!!

Now I am going to ask some questions to my friend in 3Sp, Zoey!

Key: Me=Blue
Zoey=Red

So what do you think about the research clubs, Zoey?

They are very fun!!!!

Do you think they helped you learn a little, a lot, or none?

Well, some things I already knew, and some things I never had heard of!!!

Are you glad you did it?

Yes I am very glad!! I loved it!!!

Do you think Ms. Sprague made it fun?

Yes. I think she made it very fun!! I loved it and I am looking forward to presenting it!!!

How are you going to present your work Zoey?

Well I think I might do a slideshow.

Cool! That’s what I did!!!    OK folks!! That was our interview! Thanks Zoey!!!!!

The Amazing Multicultural Assembly!

Featured Blogger: Serenity
Hello my name is Serenity and I will be talking to you about the third grade Lilja Multicultural Assembly!
I’m in third grade so I have a lot of experience with what my fellow third graders and I have to do to get ready for this.  So you’re coming with me on a adventure behind the scenes!
Rehearsals!
For rehearsals, we have to be QUIET the whole entire time we are there.  This theme is, China!  In the play, third graders in library read a book about the theme (China, Persia etc.).  Third grade Lilja Lions do this every year and always do different cultures. The book we read in library was “The Lord Of The Cranes”  So basically there are three cranes and there is a lord of them and his name is Tian!

Tech!
Since I’m taking you BEHIND the scenes, the tech is technically doing all the work.  But since I’m a crane I actually help change the scenes. If you don’t get what I am saying, I’m going to explain it right now!  In one of the scenes, I come out of a wall, like a crane in the story, and dance to Tian’s (lord of cranes) song!

I hope you liked reading my blog post about…

Exceptional Effort Jar

Featured Blogger: Katherine
Do you know what exceptional effort is? Well 3Sp has been doing a lot of it! Exceptional effort is taking your time, following directions carefully, checking your work when you are done, and thinking of everything you can to make sure your work is the best it can be. Now that is just what exceptional effort is but now it is time to tell you what 3Sp has been doing.  We have a jar and we call it the Exceptional Effort Jar. Every time someone shows exceptional effort they get to put a cube in the jar. When we filled the jar for the first time we got to watch a movie with 3S! We could bring a small toy! That is how the exceptional effort works in 3Sp!

Book Bracket

Featured Blogger: Colin
Hi my name is Colin.  We will talk about the March Madness Book Tournament that we had in school.  First we picked a lot of books (like 60.) we had narrow it down to 30 then 16 then it  started. The books were Zoo 3D, Chronicles of Narnia, Raina Telgemeier, El Defo, Creepy Pair of Underwear, Magic Tree House, Roald Dahl, Wonder, Wild Robot, Puppy Place, Harry Potter Who Would Win, Humphrey, Weird but True, I Survived, and Paddington.  Get your guesses up. Do you know who won? Weird but True Won!!! This is how we got to vote on the books. First someone made a ballot box. If you want to vote on the book bracket you had to at least read half of both books in the pair. We did this because this practiced our reading in a fun way. I hope you enjoyed!!!
This is a picture of the book bracket when it just started.

Paul Revere House Visit

Featured Blogger: Gabe
When someone from the Paul Revere house visited, we did role plays.  I was Sam Adams, James was John Hancock, and Jake was Paul Revere. The role plays were fun but educational.  We learned mostly about the people besides Paul Revere. For example, we learned about his friends and family. There were props, costumes, and hats. Some people got items the person they were role playing might use.  For example, I got a hat and Eamonn got a British hat. We also learned more about the Midnight Ride. It was really fun!!!!!

This is a picture of the class with the props we were using during the role plays.
