Wampanoags!!!

Featured Blogger: James
We learned about Wampanoags. The first day we studied Wampanoags we looked at pictures of different Wampanoag tools that they used.  Then we wrote sticky notes on stuff we wanted to learn about the Wampanoags.  The second time we started doing centers.  There was different centers.  We could look at clothes, children, beliefs, leaders, jobs, homes, and schools.  After that we started really fun centers where we made pottery and bracelets inspired by the Wampanoags.  It was really fun!
Wampanoags were smart.  They knew how to hunt and cook and live. They mostly hunted deer skin. For a blanket they used deer skin and some other stuff. They used bows and arrows to hunt. Also some Wampanoags had different jobs.  Men fished and hunted.  Women cooked and made clothes.  Kids babysat littler kids and they also learned how to do what their parents did like hunt, cook, and make clothes.

I hope you liked my blog and learned about the Wampanoags!

Snuggle Up and Read

Featured Blogger: Jake

Snuggle up and read was our reward because Lilja gave us an all school reward.  We got to bring a stuffed animal and a book.  It was so “FUN”!!!  It was around the holidays so we got to color in a Christmas or Hanukkah or winter paper.  Also there was like no work.  When it was time for recess you could bring your stuffed animal outside.  I brought an elephant.  I wrapped it around the firepole.  Enzo brought a tiger.  I forgot to bring a book but there's books at school.  My stuffed animal helped me color my paper.  And Ms. Ferranti came in and read us Really Little Red Riding Hood.  It was fun.

Going to Plimoth Plantation

Featured Blogger: Enzo
At Plimoth Plantation they split you into groups. Some groups go in the Pilgrim village and the others go in the Wampanoag village.  First everybody had lunch then we watched a short movie about the pilgrims and the Wampanoags. It was good.  After that we got started in the Pilgrim village the houses looked good. One house had someone cooking in it.
One person had a gun and a sword. A lot of people were crowding around him. One house had a pen.  The pen had a ram and a goat. The Pilgrims had a hard bed. Their was one room in the hole house entire house.  It was called the keeping room.
The Pilgrim children played with kites, marbles, hide and seek and leap frog and keepaway. The boys went fishing and gathering wood and farming. The girls did farming, keeping birds away from the crops, cooking, and making clothes. The kids manners were they had to leave their hat on their head, they can not speak until an adult speaks, they eat with their hands only, and they were not allowed to sit while eating-only standing.
Their houses were made out of wooden planks, cement for the ceiling, and the windows were wax paper. They had fancy plates, they had a fire place, and some houses had a upstares to hold food and water and other stuff.
In the Wampanoag village they cut down trees to make canoes. And this is how they  make canoes. First the wampanoags cut down trees then they make a fire on the wood to make it hollow then they put clay on the part they don't want to burn. It takes about 24 hours to burn and then you have a canoe.
You can find these items in a wetu. A pot, bed, bench, animal fur and a fire. A wetu is made out of wood and straw. A longhouse is a big house that has fur on the wall to keep it warm inside the house. The baby’s lay on a wooden crate. I bet you that wouldn't feel good at all. The women cooked the food. And the boys hunt animals for breakfast snacks and lunch and dinner. The Wampanoags got to eat whatever they want to eat and when ever they want to eat.
The women made dolls for the girls to play with as a toy. The men made toy canoes for the boys to play with. The Wampanoags believed in a giant named Mashup. He ripped trees and stepped on stones to walk across rivers. We saw a person trying to make a headband for her son but it turned out to be a necklace.
Everyone loved Plimoth Plantation!

The Witches!!!

Featured Blogger: Colin
Hello my name is Colin.  I am from 3Sp. I will tell you about The Witches.  That is a book we read in snack time read-out-loud.  It’s by Roald Dahl. It is about a little boy that lived in England.  His parents died in a car crash, so he lived with his grandmother in Norway. They had to move back to England though.  She always told him stories about the witches.  They wanted to go on vacation, but his grandmother got sick.  They had to go to the HOTEL MAGNIFICENT.  Then, his grandmother got him two white mice. He wanted to train them.  When he was gone the mice got in his bed and the maid found them!  Then she had to go to the manager.  The boy had to keep his mice in the cage. One day, he wanted to keep the training going. Then he found two open doors.  They said “reserved for the committee of prevention of cruelty to children.”  He continued his mouse training.  Then, some women came into the room. They sat down and one of them went to the platform.

Then she said, “ You may take your hats off, and take your shoes off.” Then she said “All the in witches England, I have seen so many kids!  It’s sickening!  We need to kill them all of them by the time I come next year. HOW do we? We use a special type of liquid.  What is it called you may think, it is named formula 86 delayed action mouse maker!”

I am going to leave you off on a cliffhanger!  If you want to know what happens next?  Read the rest of Witches to find out!

K Buddies

Featured Blogger: Sarah
Hi my name is Sarah and I’m going to tell you about kindergarten  buddies.  This year in 3Sp we have k buddies.  K buddies are when a 3rd grade class meets up with a k class and they do fun activities together.  This year since their is an  extra k class  our class gets two classes so we have two buddies one from each class.  Our classes are KG and KK.  Each 3rd grader gets a kindergartner or they have a double buddie because their are more third graders than kindergartners.  When we first met with KK it was the day before Halloween.  We made a Halloween scene.   People made grave yards, haunted houses, pumpkins and more. Then at the end we trade.  We also made cards for each other with some things about us like our favorite color, our family, a picture of us , our age, and  favorite food. We all like our buddies and  we all want to do it again.

Then in KG it was on Halloween.  We had beads, 4 pipe cleaners (orange and green two of each) to make a  pumpkin.  We  had to put the beads on the orange pipe cleaners and tie them together so it looks like a pumpkin.  Then you take the green ones and you tie them to make them look like a stem.  Then after that you put them together and it looks like a hollow pumpkin.  If you finish early you can make a halloween puppet or just talk with your buddie.  Then it was sadly time to line up :( We can’t wait to do it again.

Sweet Treats

Featured Blogger: Nathaniel
Hi I’m Nathaniel, and today I am going to teach about our sweet treats project.  So first we got a partner. Then we came up with 4 things that people could vote for.  Next we went to a class and got data from the class.
Forth we made our bar graphs.  Next we wrote a response on what we noticed about our bar graphs.  Also we noticed what sweet treat we are going to sell because that was the most popular in that class that we surveyed.
It was fun when we got to go to someone else’s classroom!  We hope for some support for our sweet treats project.  And now be on the lookout for more blog posts.

Also thank you for reading my blog post!

Catapults

Featured Blogger: Ema
Hi! I’m Ema and I am going to teach you about a stem challenge we did.  So about that stem challenge we did.  It was building a catapult and it was really fun! We only got to use the materials that we were given: unsharpened pencils, binder clips, 1 pom pom to launch, clothespins, rubber bands, plastic spoons, popsicle sticks and tongue depressors.  We were not allowed to use anything BUT those materials. While we were building our catapults me and my partner noticed that we had to do extra things so it could stand.  Besides that it was really fun doing the stem challenge!  BUT! If we were working with a partner we had to decide who would get to bring the catapult home.

So the next day we had to decide.  So we all did. At the end of the day we brought them home. But if you were working alone you just bring it home but if you were working with a partner or a small group you would have to decide. After dismissal we got to bring our catapult home. YAY! HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!

The Read-a-Thon

Featured Blogger: Kyle
Hi my name is Kyle. I’m going to tell you about what a read-a-thon is and that how we got to do it. A read-a-thon is when we brought a pillow pet or a glow pet or a blanket and book as our third thing.  I brought a pillow pet and a stuffed animal and a book.  This is how we got to do it: we had a compliment checklist  and we finished it so we voted.  All the people at my table and me voted for the read-a-thon. What we did was a read-a-thon sandwich. The bread was the read-a-thon, the ham was The Witches  break, then the other piece of bread was the last bit of read-a-thon. The Witches break was when we read our snack time read aloud. After the read-a-thon went on with the rest of our day. The read-a-thon was so much FUN!!!!!!!

Recorder

Featured Blogger: Keith
Hi I’m Keith.  This year in third grade in music we are learning how to play the recorder.  It is one of my favorite instruments!  We are doing recorder karate.  If you play “Hot Cross Buns” you get a white string tide around your recorder. “Gently Sleeping” yellow, “Merrily We Roll Along” orange, “It`s Raining” green, “Old MacDonald Had a Farm” purple, “When the Saints Go Marching In” blue, “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” red, “Amazing Grace” brown, “Ode to Joy” black.  Mr. Roper is a very good music teacher. Probably the best music teacher.  The best one that I know!  Music is the best!  The recorder has three parts to it.  A middle, an end, also a top. The top has a little opening. That is where all the sound comes out.  The cases are waterproof.  You get to have them until fourth grade!!!  It is hard when you first play it.  But soon you’ll be rolling!  I hope you liked it.

New Playground

Featured Blogger: Sammy
Hi I’m Sammy, and today I am talking about the best playground in the world. Last year we had a playground but it was really falling apart. Over time the town of Natick agreed with what we said and got to work. The whole summer they were working really hard to get this project done. At the end of the summer they still weren’t finished with the project. They worked harder and harder each day. Each school day we kept asking and asking when is the playground going to be open. We waited and waited, until one day it came. The teachers said the playground was open.

A couple days later, I went on the playground and it was the best playground EVER! It had monkey bars, slides, climbing structures, you name it. If you get bored one day, let me tell you what. Go to this playground and you will love it as much as I do. Now you know about the GREATEST PLAYGROUND IN THE WORLD. If you have extra time one day, come here and enjoy yourselves.

School Days According to Humphrey

Featured Blogger: Molly
Hi I’m Molly from 3Sp and I’m going to teach you about Humphrey the hamster and what he thinks about school!  Humphrey is the main character in the story School Days According to Humphrey.  You might be wondering how this relates to 3Sp.  It relates to 3Sp because we read the story in the first month of school during snack time.

Humphrey has nicknames for the students in room 26 like Rolling Rosie, Hurry Up Harry, and Small Paul.  His best friends are Og and Aldo. Then Humphrey gets in trouble.  One night he sneaks out of room 26 and tries to find he’s old friends and where they went.  Then he got stuck under a door.  Luckily he got unstuck.  At first he didn’t like the new students.  Then he really likes the new students.  Yay!  Then he thinks he’s moving to another classroom and he would never ever see Og again.  But at the end of the story it wasn’t happening.  Then the class that he thought was going to take him got hermit crabs.  That is what Humphrey thinks about school.  3Sp loves this book because it’s funny, adventurous, and we wanted to read more every time we stopped!
