Area and Perimeter

Featured Blogger: Ema

In math we started learning about something called area and perimeter. We learned that perimeter is the distance around a shape, and area is the space inside a shape. For example for a rectangle the width is the shorter side of the rectangle, and the length is the longer side of the rectangle. So what if the width of the rectangle is 11 and the length of the rectangle is 12. So it would be 12 times 11 equals the area of the rectangle. But the perimeter of the rectangle would be 12 +12+11+11 =22+24=46. So 46 would be the perimeter. But something harder would be the area and perimeter of a hexagon. That is a little harder because there are more sides. But it is basically 3 times 6 is the area. But the perimeter is 3+3+3+3+3+3= 18, and so 18 is also the area. We learned all kinds of problems with area and perimeter like the restaurant project we are still working on.  Like the problem when we had to calculate the whole area and perimeter of the whole restaurant, and trust me it was not easy and it was not super hard either. It was just like normal math except a little harder. Now I hope you know what area and perimeter is.
