It’s Spring!  We had Kindergarten Buddies! We made kites out of cupcake holders!  It was so, so fun!  We took two cupcake holders and folded them in a pizza shape. If your color of the cupcake holders you used did not have any decorations or designs, then you could draw on them. Then, we would glue the two pizza shaped cupcake holders together so it would look like a kite. Then, we glued the kite shaped cupcake holders to any color paper you wanted it to be. The teachers (Ms.Hirsch, the KH kindergarten teacher and Ms. Sprague, our 3Sp third grade teacher) put lots of colors of paper out so you could choose any color you wanted! After that we would take some white paper and cut it out to look like a cloud. Now, kites need a tail. Right? So, we took some yarn and cut it long enough to be a tail. Then, we cut out paper that looked like kite tail bows in any color you wanted it to be. My buddy and I had a great time doing this activity.

Dance Party!!!

In the Lilja school dance party we danced like crazy.  We even had a cool man named D.J. Mike, he was really cool! We break danced and we also did the choo-choo dance.  We did really long choo-choo dances.  My friends and I did choo-choo dances and we always fell down because the kid in front was going faster than others.  People were yelling and screaming out loud!  We earned it by earning a lot of Lilja lion paws.  We had to earn 1,500 Paws to earn the dance party.  Also, all the classes went up on the stage to show their dance moves, singing, laughing, and other things.  But before that there were people having a dance off for the best dancer moves.  Also, they had a 2 person tango dance and a 5 person dance.  People got prizes too. Also, we heard Watch Me Whip, UpTown Funk, Cake by the Ocean, Drag Me Down, The Cupid Shuffle, and more songs.  It was really loud and fun in the gym.  Everybody was crowding around the stage, it was really chaotic!  We also danced with our own classes until we got called to go on the stage with our class.  So if you earn 1,500 paws you might get a dance party for your reward.

Multicultural Assembly

All the third grade classes are going to be in this assembly.  The assembly is called the Multicultural Assembly.  It's about a person that has a parrot as his pet.  He lets it go and the parrot warns him about something.  Next he goes to India, and he sees parrots.  He tells them about the warning. When he told one it shivered and died. The merchant said he should not have spoken.  

There's also supposed to be a dance too and there will be people playing recorders. There’s a lot of other things too.  People who are playing the parrots will be wearing masks and lots of green and blue.  There's three groups: 3Sp is first, then 3N, then it is 3SH. There's also masks that people are going to be wearing. We made them in art class. It was a lot of fun! We rehearse every Thursday for the Multicultural Assembly. It's on the 24th of March at 8:40. You should go to it. It is going to be so much fun!

Jump Rope for Heart

In gym we are doing Jump Rope For Heart. It is a fundraiser for the American Heart Association. It is when we raise money for the American Heart Association. If you raise 5 dollars or more you earn a dog on a lanyard. Jump Rope For Heart ends on Friday, March 25th, 2016. The week of 3/14/16 is “Jump Rope For Heart Week.” It is when we do a bunch of jump rope related things in gym. We watched a video on Jump Rope For Heart it was about a kid who raises a lot of money for the American Heart Association. His name is Bran and he is eleven. Mr. DeMayo gave us envelopes where we put the money/checks in (for the American Heart Association), and to write who donated. You could donate online as well. The way you would do that is you would ask your mother/father if they could set up a Jump Rope For Heart account. Then they would send an email to your family and they might donate! Those are a few things about JUMP ROPE FOR HEART!!!!!!!!  A lot of kids think it is fun and we hope we raise a lot of money for the American Heart Association!

The Awesome Auction

The Auction is a fundraiser for Lilja.  Our class made two pieces of artwork  that the parents that will bid on at the Auction.  This year we made hands that we cut out. Jason's mom Mrs. Danahy helped us, and she also brought all the materials.  I was not here the day we did  the second  activity  for the Auction so I interviewed Felitcia in my class and she told me what they did. Jason's aunt took pictures of  a heart that we made with our hands, a star, and a rectangle too.  We hope you raise money for Lilja and come to the Auction on Friday, April 8th.

Beach Day

On Beach Day we brought towels, sunglasses, and hats. In science we made boats out of tinfoil. We saw how many bears the boats could hold and mine held the most. We also did “Does it Sink or Float” in science. But that’s not all!  We did Mad Libs, word searches and a ton of other fun stuff. The food was fruit kabobs and blue jello in a cup with a tiny umbrella in it and Swedish fish and whipped cream on top. The parents who helped with the snack were my mom, Joey’s mom and Nick’s mom. You should have been there because it was sooooooooo fun!

March Madness

In 3Sp we have a March Madness tournament and we do it on books instead of basketball because that would be weird if we had a basketball hoop or a basketball in our classroom. Also, we had way more books than 16 books because, the tournament starts off with the sweet 16, then the elite 8, then the final 4, and then the championship game! Also we had a bracket and our teacher printed pictures of our sweet 16 books! So far we voted for a group of books. You don’t have to just vote for 1 group, you can vote for any type of group of books, but you have to read both of the books in that group. These are some of the books that are on the bracket: Miss Daisy is Crazy, We Are In A Book, and more! I bet most of the kids voted for Bone or the Lemonade War because they are the most popular books in the classroom. If you are almost done with a book you check it off, and if you are going to plan to read a new book you circle it on your copy of the bracket. We first picked book series to have 16 books for the sweet 16. There can only be 16 books in the sweet 16. So, I think the March Madness for books is really fun and I hope you like the March Madness.

Book Projects

In 3Sp, for two weeks we worked on a book project for homework. I did a PowerPoint. One of the choices was making the setting of the book you chose. Another one was to create a model of the main character, and then interview the character. Some kids chose graphic chapter book, and made a comic strip of a chapter. Next is PowerPoint, and kids created a slideshow on the computer. Some kids chose shoebox diorama, and they created a mini scene with characters in a shoebox. Some kids did a book timeline, and created a timeline of the book. The last thing you could do is a book in a box; they used items from the book to represent an important part of the book. I liked watching people share their projects. They were all different. It was fun making the book projects!

Colonial Life Projects

In social studies, we have been using Book Creator, an app on the iPad. We have been using it for our colonial life project. There are 7 groups, the first one is school, the second one is religion, the third one is work, the fourth one was food, the fifth one is families and homes, six clothes, and last of all, important places. My group worked on colonial clothes.  We went onto Safari, downloaded a few pictures, and then we pasted it onto the pages of our book.  We had to have 3 text features, and we chose glossary, diagram and labels.  These helped the readers understand more about our book.  We all worked together to type in all the words and facts.  Soon we will be experts on colonial life!

The 13 Colonies

We learned about the 13 colonies, the Quakers and the Puritans.  We split up into groups and we learned one part about the 13 colonies.  My group studied about religion in the 13 colonies. For part 1 we had to read an article about the topic we studied about. Then we had to write the 5 to 10 most important facts about our topic. Then we did part 2. In part 2 we read Fact Tracker: American Revolution. It had facts about our topics, and then we had to write the 5 to 10 most important facts that were in Fact Tracker. Then we did part 3. We had to choose three text features so the reader can understand what we’re teaching them.  Then we did part 4. In part 4 worked on revising and editing.  When we revise we do “ARMS,” which stands for Add, Remove, Move, and Substitute.  Then on that same sheet it said to check for COPS. The C stands for capitalization, the O stands for order and organization, the P stands for punctuation, and the S stands for spelling. Then we used our draft to make our final draft.  We did our final draft on Book Creator. We wrote our facts and we made it into an article. It included 3 text features. Then we shared our articles. We had FUN making our articles in Book Creator!
